Manortown United Team of the Week Academy (under 7's) Front row; Matt, Ryan, Phoebe, Daniel, Luke, Sam. The Manortown United team of the week this week is our new under 7 team playing their first match on Saturday May 19th on the 8 acres against St Mochtas. This was a fantastic performance by this team in front of a large crowd on a beautiful sunny day in Perrystown. Two five-a-side matches played side by side against a very good and sporting St Mochtas side. The first matches on both pitches were won by St Mochtas However it was a different story in the second set of matches when the Town started to play some great football. They were led on pitch one by Taghe O Sullivan who ran the show. His tackling back, his passing, and some fantastic goals gave the team a great victory in the second match. He totally deserved his man of the match award. He was ably assisted by last season's player of the year Kobi Corr who had the crowd on their feet with his mazy runs, his Ronaldo style step-overs and his deadly finishing in front of goal. Patrick Crowe and Ryan O Reilly caused the Mochtas defense lots of problems. Some very strong running on the ball and great shots that narrowly missed the target by Patrick and Ryan were great to watch. Mochtas however created some great chances and would have scored a lot more goals except for some great saves from Matt Murray in goal and great tackles when playing in defense. Phoebe Woods also had an outstanding game with great goalkeeping, running with the ball and some great passing that led to goals for the team. On pitch no 2 the story was very similar. Endless running with the ball by Daniel O Keefe kept the Mochtas team on their toes. Where does this guy get all that energy. He finished off a lot of those runs with some great goals. Goals also came from the man of the match, on this pitch, Sam Martin. He worked so hard up and down the pitch and never allowed the opposition to settle on the ball. A great goal from Luke Doyle brought the large crowd to it's feet. Wendkouni also got on the score-sheet with some great goals and his speed at tackling back to clear any danger is what he does so well. Not forgetting Eoghan Whelan who also scored. He also works very hard for the team and is never far away from the action. A tough tackler who never gives up. The only girl on this pitch was Tegan Doyle and she was responsible for some great assists. Her passing and her hard work caused the opposition lots of problems. We would also like to thank St Mochtas and their manager Colin Hawkins for a very sporting contest. Colin is an ex Irish youth international who played on the team that finished third in the FIFA World Youth Championships back in 1997. He also played in and won the league of Ireland title on several occasions most notably with St Patricks Athletic. So a great start by this team. Everyone at the club would like to wish them the very best for the rest of this season and future seasons with Manortown. Well done guys (and girls). Come on the Town. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Please use the registration form on this site to register your details electronically with the club. There is a separate paper registration form, required by the FAI which will need to be filled on the registration night *** Another Manortown player makes his Irish debut. Ex Manortown player Luke Turner (wearing no 14 above) made his international debut this week for the Rep of Ireland under 16 team in Hungary.Hungary beat Ireland 3-2 but Luke played a full game. Luke played for Manortown for many years starting in the academy at the age of six. He currently plays for Shamrock Rovers. His brother Ryan played for Manortown up to last season where he was voted Manortown United Player of the Year. Their dad Dave Turner was the Manortown schoolboy secretary for the last 4 years, until recently. Luke has now joined an elite list of Manortown players who have received international caps at schoolboy and senior level. Luke is a fantastic footballer with a great attitude so this is fantastic news for the club. Many congratulations go out to Luke from everybody here at Manortown and hopefully he will go on to receive senior caps in the years ahead. Well done Luke and best wishes once again for the future from everyone associated with Manortown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reg Night Cancelled Thurs March 1st. New help is most welcome _______________________________________ Announcing the passing of Mrs Tuite. We are sad to announce the passing of Mrs Tuite who along with her late husband Matt and her family were lifelong supporters of Manortown Utd. They spent many years on the Manortown side-lines supporting our teams. Paul Tuite (her son) played for the club for many years when he most famously was part of the Manortown under 17 FAI All Ireland Cup winning team in 1984 one of the clubs greatest achievements. They also won the Under 17 TAB cup the same year. Paul later became a League of Ireland referee and was the referee for the 2013 FAI cup final between Sligo Rovers and Drogheda in the Aviva stadium. Our condolences go out to Paul and Mrs Tuites three daughters Margaret, Teresa and Frances. Mrs Tuite was a real lady who cared more about the kids enjoying their football rather than having to win. She will be a very sad loss to the local community. Thanks Mrs Tuite for your many years of support. May you Rest In Peace. Funeral mass in Kimmage Manor Church Thurs Jan 25 at 10am Burial afterwards in Bohernabreena cemetery. ==================================== Under 12's Back from Barcelona This is the Manortown under 12 team after their game against a Spanish side just outside Barcelona last week. The lads returned safe and sound after a fantastic four days of fun, football, training sessions, swimming, parties and finishing off with a tour of the famous Nou Camp Stadium on the last day. A big thanks goes out to Joey and Michelle Palmer for their organisation and fund-raising of this trip that will never be forgotten by the kids. Thank you also to the parents for their hard work in helping the with the fund-raising during the last year. The players must also be congratulated on their exemplary behaviour during the whole trip. They were a credit to the club. Some of the lads enjoying the Nou Camp. Here's to the next trip -------------------------------------------------------------------- Barcelona here we come The two Manortown under 12's teams are heading to Barcelona this weekend for four days. The players are staying in a sports resort just outside Barcelona. Some of the Manortown under 12 players that are heading away to Barcelona. They will play matches and have training sessions with professional Spanish coaches. They are also planning a tour of the famous Nou Camp Stadium. The trip has been organised by manager Joey Palmer and wife Michelle. Parents of the players have spent the last year helping with fundraising so all the kids can go free. New yellow tracksuit tops will be given to all the players to mark the trip and these were kindly sponsored by Perry, Fionnuala and Ciaran Haughton. The club would like to thank them for their sponsorship. It is very much appreciated. The tracksuits will have the Irish tricolour over the Manortown crest and Barcelona 2017 underneath This is the second Manortown trip to Spain this year as the under 10's had a trip to Seville earlier on in the year. This is a very exciting time for these players and a trip that will live long in their memories. This is a great little team and we're sure they will teach the Spaniards a thing or two about football. The club would like to wish them the best of luck, hope they have a fantastic time and of course a safe journey to and from Spain. Come on the Town ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Reg Night Wed Oct 18 One more registration night this Wednesday at 7pm to 8pm in the community centre. This is for those who could not make it last week. We are still short on the under 10 section especially. So could managers please inform the parents and stress the importance of finishing off payment of subscriptions. There are also players from other teams who are not fully paid up. We hope to see you there on Wednasday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Last Registration Night We are having one more registration night next Wed in the community centre from 7pm to 8pm. This years registration fee was set at 180 euro for under 8's and 9's and 200 euro for under 10's upwards. This was due to be paid in two instalments. The exception being the under 10's who were allowed make smaller payments over a longer period because of the extra cost of their trip to Spain earlier in the year. There is still over 3000 euro due in from members who have not made the final payment. So we are asking parents from the under 10 section especially to please try and make the final reg night to make their final payment. There are also players from other teams who have not made this payment. We are urging all managers to make sure the parents are informed of this reg night and are aware of the importance of showing up to finish off their payment. We have also signed some new players during the summer break. We also need them to show up on the night to sign the relevant forms. Their will be a fee of 50 euro for new members to offset the upcoming registration, training and referee costs. Perrystown Community Centre Wed Oct 11 @ 7pm to 8pm ------------------------------------------------------------------ A Manortown Legend Passes It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of a true legend of Manortown over the weekend. Brian Smith passed away on Saturday after a long brave battle with cancer. Brian came to Manortown in the 1980's as a player with the senior team and shortly after became manager of the senior section. This started a truly great era in the history of Manortown. From the day he took over, the senior team started winning leagues, cups and even league and cup doubles. It wasn't long before we moved into Intermediate football where more trophies followed. Smithy remained very modest about his achievements and when he was asked to explain the secret of his success, he said, "I just sign the best players and let them at it". He signed the best players because everyone wanted to play for him. Everyone wanted to be Smithy's friend. He got the best out of players because nobody wanted to let him down. That was because of his beautiful nature. A quiet, kind, warm, caring and gentle guy who was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to know him. You would have to look long and hard to find anyone who had a bad word to say about Smithy. The fun didn't stop when the match was over as Smithy was renowned for being the heart and soul of many a great sing-song down the years. The club would like to extend our deep condolences to his wife Sandra and daughter Sharon. Thanks again Brian for all the wonderful memories that you have left behind. You will never be forgotten. From all your friends in Manortown. (Reposing at Fanagans Augier Street on Tuesday from 4pm to 6pm. Mass in St Agnes Crumlin at 11-30 on Wed.) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Manortown AGM cancelled. The Manortown AGM scheduled for Wed has been cancelled until further notice. This is due to the funeral on Wed of Brian Smith. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Manortown Golf Classic 2017 Sponsored by Ramon Massey. This years Manortown golf classic was played in Rathfarnham Golf Club recently. This event was a fundraiser for our under 12 teams that are heading off to Barcelona for the trip of a lifetime in October. We are very grateful once again to Ramon Massey Funeral Directors in Walkinstown for their continued sponsorship over the last few years. Ramon sponsored all the prizes for this event and in doing so helped the team raise approx. 2000 euro when all the proceeds are collected. We are now depending on all the other businesses who pledged 100 euro to send in their payments. We would like to thank all these local businesses for their support. Sponsors are listed below. We would also like to thank individuals who could not make the golf on the day but instead paid in the entrance fee of 50 euro. They are Phillip Penny, Brian Masterson and Barry Walsh. We have two teams playing in cup semi-finals this week. Our under 11D team are playing at home on the five acres against Sacred Heart at 11-30 in the Subsidiary Cup and our under 12A1 are playing in the Hillary Cup semi-final at 12-30 on the 8 acres against Esker Celtic. We would like to wish both teams and managers, Darren Hiney and Joey Palmer the best of luck. Your support is greatly appreciated. Come on the Town. Team of the week Under 8's Great win against Cherry Orchard Back row; Ian, Rhys, Sean, Dylan, Josh, Andrew, Ryan, Paddy Front row; Eoghan, Cathal, Paddy, John, Leon, Jayden. Great performance by our lads last week against Cherry Orchard in the under 8s section of the DDSL. These players have improved in leap and bounds since they started with only six players last September. They faced a really stiff test against Cherry Orchard on the 5 acres recently. From the start they got stuck in, played some great football and scored lots of goals. Almost all our players scored on the day. This team are great to watch because they love their football and show a great desire to win every ball. They have been put in a league with some of the big guns in schoolboy football but this does not faze them one bit. This week they play away to another famous club, Tolka Rovers. They are now managed by Paddy, with help from Ian and Martin. Keep it going boys. Come on the Town. ------------------------------------------------------------ Up to date weekly fixtures for all Manortown teams can be found by clicking on "Team Fixtures" in the left hand column ------------------------------------------------------------ Up to date manager and secretary contacts can be found by clicking on "Manager contacts in the left hand column. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Below is the notice being given to all parents explaining the payment of reg fees for the coming season. This is a notice to all parents of players in the club regarding next season’s subscription fees. This season will run from the 11th of March until the end of November. There will be a two month break from the end of June to the end of August for the younger teams and a six week break for the 11-a-side teams. Normally the club registration fee works out at 220 euro for the season. This is paid with an 80 euro deposit at the start of the season followed by 5 euro a week. Given that a full season is approx 7 months of actually playing football (28 weeks) a player playing every match would pay 140 plus their 80 euro deposit. Last season was only a ten week season so parents would have paid 80 euro plus ten 5 euro’s if they played every game. This is a total of 130 euro. For this season, after consultation with the managers we have decided to change the way we collect the subs. The cost this season will be 180 euro for under 8’s and 9’s and 200 euro for teams above that age group. The fees will be collected in two payments. The first payment of 100 euro is to be paid in March followed by the balance at the end of April. Fees remain at half price for a 2nd child in the family and free for the third. There will be no more payments of 5 euro per week. There are a few reasons why we are changing. First, the managers are finding it difficult to keep track of all the payments and they don’t like to chase people if they have missed a payment. Second, very little of the fivers collected come back to the club as they are used to cover the expenses of the team. The third reason is because the club needs to show money coming in to the bank account in order to be in a position to apply for grants or loans. Recently, we had to turn down an invitation to apply for a sports capital grant of up to 150,000 euro because we needed to have 5% of the money in the bank account to apply. This year was the first year we were eligible to apply because you must have three years of audited accounts to apply which we now have. We are hoping to be ready to apply next year to improve our training facilities with plans for an astro pitch, lights and pitch resurfacing. We are heading for our 50th anniversary shortly (2019) and we hope this may help us with our application. The fees cover personal accident insurance, public liability insurance, Co.Council pitch fees, DDSL fees, FAI fees, community centre rent, training fees, football gear, training gear, referee fees etc. etc. The fees paid in by parents does not cover all the expenses needed to run the club and the deficit is made up by running fund-raising events throughout the year plus donations from our very generous sponsors. We have two teams heading off to Spain this season. Our under 10’s are going to Seville in April and our under 12’s are going to Barcelona in October. We wish them the best of luck in what should be very memorable trips for these players. We also plan to have more trips in the future for other age groups in the club. This seasons signing on and fee collection night is on Thurs and Friday the 2nd and 3rd of March 2017 between 6pm and 8pm in the Perrystown community centre. All parents are asked to attend on one of these nights to at least register your child for the season ahead. If you are unable to pay the fee on the night you can organise payment with one of the committee but we need your child signed up for insurance purposes and new signings need to sign a registration form for the DDSL. The second payment registration night will be at the end of April. Thank you for your co-operation The Manortown United committee. League Champions DDSL Under 11D League Winners Manortown United Congratulations to our latest Manortown team to be crowned league champions. This is our under 11 team who this week secured their first league title, in the DDSL Under 11D section. This team managed by Joey Palmer and Gary Downey fought a long and brave battle to finish on top. They won their last match a couple of weeks ago and then had to wait on other results before they could be crowned champions. This week their hard work, effort and skill was finally rewarded as they were officially announced as champions. They will be presented with their trophy and medals at the DDSL awards ceremony next Monday. The club will present them with their medals at our annual player of the year awards in August. We are all very proud of you guys, keep up the good work and enjoy your summer holidays as league champions. Come on the Town.
